Bio

I've been walking the planet for just over a half-century now...what a long, strange trip it's been! I've grown used to the insanity...I mean, what's not crazy about dancing on a little ball, spinning through space at seventeen-hundred-odd m.p.h. towards certain death? I say, get creative with your crazy...and try to do no harm.

Born a Royal Airforce spore...I blew from place to place and now live in the Pacific Northwest, USA, among the huge standing-peoples and next to Puget Sound. I am mother, musician, and minister...never in any particular order, or in the standard sense.

I believe life is half what happens to you...and half what you do with it. I believe happiness is a working choice rather than a pursuit. I believe movement is the only constant so I don't try to define myself in a static way...instead I joke about my "312 personalities" and give myself a break! The latest personality to come on board, I call OWWAM...or...Old Woman Who Ate Me.

I'm done with menopause...or menostopthatshit, as I like to call it...well, pause was just so indefinitive! There were only a few casualties and I'm not dangerous anymore...no really! My husband does a reflexive flinch every once in a while.

I gave birth to a son and a daughter but mothered lots more as a "pay it forward" after being on the road at age sixteen and receiving help from caring adults I met. That's where my name comes from...Maya Mithraca means Mother Grey Wolf.

The Grey Wolf is for my beloved friend and teacher, Grey Wolf, a First Nations Shaman, rebel, and journeyman I met on the side of the road in 1991. He journeyed-on in 1997. He taught me to bring my intent of honour, respect, humility and love to my own path, not follow anyone else's. In someone else's camp, I will respect their ways...but when I leave I take with me what I can use and, respectfully, leave the rest behind.

I'm no airy-fairy New-Rager...and I'm not playin' injun...I'm just a human-being, mundane and magic, walking the earth and loving it. I write, perform, and record songs professionally...first gig at fourteen and nearly twenty years in NY. I officiate at weddings, baptisms, funerals and ceremonial circles for those that fall between the cracks of organized religions. For the last four to five years I've been caregiver, 24/7 for my 27 yr. old daughter, who is chronically ill.
